Artist : JANE GIMME
Title : Kinyu
Size/Medium : 450 x 300mm: acrylic on canvas Painting
Jane has painted her mother’s traditional country, and the place in which she grew up – Kunawarritji, or Well 33 on the the Canning Stock Route. Shown here are the tali (sand dunes) which dominate the landscape of the area. The central circle represents Kinyu, the ancestral spirit dog, and the surrounding circles are the pups. During hard times when there was no kuka (meat) or mangarri (vegetable food) the old people would ask Kinyu for food and we would provide kangaroo or bush turkey, anything you wanted. Below Kinyu is another significant water site, Witji, a common meeting place for Jane’s family.
