Artist : PAULINE SUNFLY
Title : Wilkinkarra
Size/Medium : 1500 x 750mm: acrylic on linen Painting
Pauline has painted a story for some of her father’s country, and with permission given to her by him. Pauline’s father, Sunfly Tjampitjin, was a senior custodian for country south of Balgo, and the country depicted here, Kutjupa, is an important law site north of Wilkinkarra (Lake Mackay) a vast salt lake in the desert. The painting depicts a significant ceremony which is centred around the goanna. The circles in the painting are Yululu Warniri (rockholes).
Sadly, the ceremony and body painting associated with this country is no longer practiced, having died with Pauline’s father and grandfather.
