Title : Lurrnpa Dreaming
Size/Medium : 400 x 300mm: acrylic on canvas Painting
This painting references Tossie’s grandfather’s dreaming story – the Luurnpa or Kingfisher dreaming.
The big ancestor, the Kingfisher travelled from the east bringing people on his back. He was looking for a place to bring sick people (represented by the white semi-u shapes) and he founds a very good place calls Wirrimanu (actual Balgo).
Then Luurnpa went searching everywhere around for all the healthy people and brought them all back in Wirrimanu. Here all those ones founded what is now known as Wirrimanu.
After this, the kingfisher was tired from this journey and doing his work, so he headed out into the desert and became what is known as Uluru. He is now back in his country there but we still can see some little kingfishers around the community.
