Artist : ANGIE TOPSY TCHOOGA
Title : Yaltjirr (yam) Dreaming
Size/Medium : 1200 x 600mm: acrylic on linen Painting
This painting depicts the objects and story associated with Angie’s husband’s (Jimmy Tchooga) Tjukurrpa (Dreaming) which is yarla (bush potato/yam). This story is set in Jimmy’s traditional country of Tjukukalyu, east of Balgo in the Tanami Desert. The painting shows the country after the dry season fires, including the sacred site (circles). The U shapes represent people, the curving lines indicated the travelling yam vines underground.
That is all Angie can say about this dreaming story. The colours that Jimmy has used is the same colours you see in the landscape when you fly over on a plane.
