Ngantalarra is the name of Bertha’s father’s Country, it is south of Balgo, close to the old Yagga Yagga outstation in the Great Sandy Desert. According to Bertha’s father, it was in Ngantalarra that an early explorer hid a bag of gold when he was being chased. He hid that gold in the swampy country around here, but never came back to collect it. The bag of gold is still out there. The painting depicts the tali (sandhills) which surrounds a big waterhole, named after the Country.
