Title : Marruwa
Size/Medium : 1500 x 750 acrylic on linen Painting
This painting depicts a place to the south of Balgo, deep into The Great Sandy Desert, that is a sacred place for men’s law. This country is known as Marruwa. It was here that in the Tjukurrpa (Dreamtime) that a snake came. This snake had in its belly many people. When it stopped to rest at Marruwa, its stomach burst open and all the people escaped. To this day, the creek line at Marruwa has the shape of a big snake and there are many, distinctive stones here, as well as the six hills, also shown here.
