Artist : HELICOPTER (Joey Tjungurrayi)
Title : Partilpa
Size/Medium : 1219 x 1016mm: acrylic on canvas Painting
Helicopter has depicted his traditional country, located far to the south west of Balgo, in the Great Sandy Desert.
The central darker line reprsents a string of tjurnu (soakwaters) which were the life source for Helicopter when he was a young man travelling and hunting across the land with his family.
Helicopter recounts the names of those tjurnu’s, from left to right; Wirila, Tjuwiltjarra, Partilpa and Kukulyurru. The strong dark lines represent large tali (sandhills) whilst the colourful parallel lines in the painting represent the tali (sand dunes) which dominate the landscape of the area.
