Artist : JANE GIMME
Title : Kunawarritji
Size/Medium : 450 x 300mm: acrylic on canvas Painting
Jane has painted her mother’s traditional country, and the place in which she grew up – Kunawarritji, or Well 33 on the the Canning Stock Route. Shown here are the tali (sand dunes) which dominate the landscape of the area, with the tjurrnu (soakwater) Kunawarritji in the centre. The brown circles depict the holes where the ancestral spirit dog, Kinyu lived and its pups. This painting depicts women travelling through the land looking for food and water. Women would camp at one water hole and then the next day camp at another until they found water.
