Artist : JANE GIMME
Title : Wiltji
Size/Medium : 450 x 300mm: acrylic on canvas Painting
Jane has painted her grandmother’s traditional country, and the place in which she grew up – Wiltji. Shown here are the tali (sand dunes) which dominate the landscape of the area, this is where the old women would go looking for mangarri (bush tucker) searching around the rockholes with leaves to clear the ground. The women would ask Kinyu, an ancestral spirit dog to help them find mangarri, who would always provide. Wiltji is a rockhole at the top of a hill near Kunawarritji – it is a special place.
