Artist : JANE GIMME
Title : Kunawarritji
Size/Medium : 450 x 300mm: acrylic on canvas Painting
Jane has painted her mother’s traditional country, and the place in which she grew up – Kunawarritji, or Well 33 on the the Canning Stock Route. Shown here are the tali (sand dunes) which dominate the landscape of the area, with the Kinyu (spirit dog) waterhole in the centre. During hard times when there was no kuka (meat) or mangarri (vegetable food) the old people would ask Kinyu for food and he would provide kangaroo or bush turkey, anything you wanted. This painting depicts all the food Kinyu provides.
